La Jolla Cove got the Bill Magee Blues yesterday — and couldn’t be happier. The band was featured at the most recent show in the town’s annual series of La Jolla Concerts By the Sea. Bill Magee hails from Mississippi, was raised in New York, played with Jimi Hendrix, and is now based in music-loving San Diego.
Guests at La Jolla Cove Suites enjoyed front row seats to this world-class show. You have a chance to be a La Jolla Cove Suites guest for FREE. We are giving away one free overnight at each of several upcoming summer concerts. Remember to sign up in the park to be eligible to win.
La Jolla fans of the Americana music spectrum got a big dose of their favorite sounds yesterday as the Bastard Sons of Johnny Cash played Scripps Park at the La Jolla Concert By the Sea. The San Diego-native band is led by songwriter Mark Stuart, who received express permission from the “Man in Black” for the use of his name.
Does La Jolla even deserve music this good? Yes, we do. And it keeps getting better. La Jolla Cove Suites is giving away one free overnight at each of several upcoming concerts. Be sure to sign up in the park to be eligible to win.
There is no doubt that the top criteria for choosing a hotel are its location, clean rooms, and excellent customer service. Beyond that, one important and often overlooked discriminator, though, is whether or not there are hotel kitties at large. It is widely known that the presence of hotel kitties is a strong indicator of a warm, family-oriented, and pet-friendly hotel.
La Jolla Cove Suites’ hotel kitties, Cornelius and Cleo, are 14 weeks young and thriving. They just went to the vet for their booster vaccines. They are still very playful. One of Cornelius’ favorite games is scaling Assistant General Manager Joanna’s desk via the path he forged, walking across her paperwork, getting put back down on the floor, and repeating ad infinitum. Both cats are growing very quickly, and their personalities are really starting to show. Cornelius is in charge but Cleo holds her own. Please come visit our hotel – and our kitties.
A sure sign of summer, the San Diego Junior Lifeguards spent Monday training at Scripps Park in front of La Jolla Cove Suites. The whole city is proud of this rigorous lifeguarding program, which teaches our youth beach safety, ocean and wave education, area familiarity, first aid and CPR, water rescue techniques, and fitness. Despite the physical and mental demands of the program, each summer session is in hot demand and fills up within hours of its posting. Every session culminates in an (optional) jump off of the Ocean Beach Pier, which always makes local news. Way to go, Kids, we are so proud of you!

La Jolla Cove Suites was privileged to host the Sisters in Christ prayer and study intensive over the weekend. They held their study sessions in our newly renovated conference room, which includes kitchen facilities, a private restroom, and an oceanfront patio. Dinners were held in our rooftop solarium. The ladies stayed in our oceanfront suites and enjoyed our complimentary breakfast on the oceanfront rooftop deck. We truly hope our site was the perfect venue for your study and spiritual reflection.
Our beloved boss, Krista Baroudi, whom we nominated for San Diego Magazine’s Woman of the Year last year. Nominations for this year are due July 15.
Get writing, people! Nominations for San Diego Magazine’s Woman of the Year are due no later than July 15. This year’s theme is Women Who Move the City. We nominated La Jolla Cove Suites’ Owner and General Manager, Krista Baroudi, for this award last year. She claims it was “the biggest honor, because the nomination came from my staff.” She encourages others in the community to honor the many women she sees who make a difference in our city every day. Nomination details are here.
La Jolla students enjoy a picnic and games to celebrate the end of the school year at La Jolla Cove’s Scripps Park
Students from La Jolla’s Muirlands Middle School frolic in front of La Jolla Cove Suites at a picnic to celebrate the end of the school year. They enjoyed perfect summer weather, blue skies, and picturesque rolling surf. Today marks the last day of the school year for 132,000 students of the San Diego Unified School District, which includes La Jolla. These kids do have a problem, though: Where do they go on vacation when they could just stay and enjoy a summer in La Jolla? Have a great summer, kids!
Krista cuddles newly rescued kittens, Cleo II and Cornelius, on their first day at La Jolla Cove Suites
La Jolla Cove Suites has two new additions to its family. Kittens Cleo II (named after our precious Cleo, the original hotel kitty) and Cornelius were rescued and adopted on Friday, June 7th, from the San Diego Humane Society. They are distractingly adorable, 8-week-old, grey tabbies. They certainly act like brother and sister, but are actually from two different litters. Currently hard at work exploring the Executive Office and the Sales office, their favorite activities are playing chase and hide and seek. Once they acclimate to their surroundings, they will be available to meet and greet our guests, so be sure to look for them.

La Jolla Cove Suites proudly hosted the project launch of Defensor Security’s GI-JOBS. It is a living documentary intended to promote the hiring of U.S. Veterans within the security industry. Defensor Security courts returning, aged and handicapped veterans for employment, due to their work ethic, reliability and discipline. Its GI-JOBS Project encourages other companies to do so, as well. Thank you, Defensor Security, for choosing us to kick off this important work. We can’t wait to see your program air.
La Jolla Cove Suites was the site of Sunday’s beautiful wedding ceremony and reception. The couple chose a clean, classic look of silver and white for their reception tables, each accented with brightly colored centerpieces for a pop of spring color. The centerpieces were ringed with a thick band of teal blue ribbon that smartly tied in the azure backdrop of ocean and sky, as well as the hotel’s signature color.
Their adorable cake was provided by Flour Power; the cake table carried the color theme of the wedding, and was ringed in gems and flower petals; the silver cake utensils were bejeweled.
Next to the photo booth sat trunks full of props and a photo album for the bride and groom.
The wedding ceremony featured a photo booth from The Abbey Catering, as well as trunks full of photo props, and a photo album for guests to leave the second copy of their picture strip for the bride and groom. We’re sure the couple delighted in taking the album with them at the end of the night for an immediate glimpse of some of the wedding fun.
The couple affixed to the Solarium window a large shuangxi, the Chinese character for Double Happiness, which is used in Chinese weddings to symbolize love, happiness, luck and a harmonious life together. We at La Jolla Cove Suites certainly wish the two of you all of that and more! Thank you for celebrating your special day with us.
