La Jolla Cove Suites Wedding and Reception

5-26-13wedding-rec-001

La Jolla Cove Suites was the site of Sunday’s beautiful wedding ceremony and reception. The couple chose a clean, classic look of silver and white for their reception tables, each accented with brightly colored centerpieces for a pop of spring color. The centerpieces were ringed with a thick band of teal blue ribbon that smartly tied in the azure backdrop of ocean and sky, as well as the hotel’s signature color.

Their adorable cake was provided by Flour Power, the cake table carried the color theme of the wedding, and was ringed in gems and flower petals; the silver cake utensils were bejeweled.

The wedding ceremony featured a photo booth from The Abbey Catering, as well as trunks full of photo props, and a photo album for guests to leave the second copy of their picture strip for the bride and groom. We’re sure the couple delighted in taking the album with them at the end of the night for an immediate glimpse of some of the wedding fun.

5-26-13wedding-rec-006The couple affixed to the Solarium window a large shuangxi, the Chinese character for Double Happiness, which is used in Chinese weddings to symbolize love, happiness, luck and a harmonious life together. We at La Jolla Cove Suites certainly wish the two of you all of that and more! Thank you for celebrating your special day with us.

One thousand school children representing all ten La Jolla elementary schools dashed, relayed, threw softballs, broad jumped, and ran obstacle courses at the annual Junior Olympics last weekend. The Kiwanis Club of La Jolla sponsors and runs the community favorite each year. Members of the Armed Services honor the community with their assistance at the event. C&H Photo of La Jolla provides volunteer photographers who take action shots of each child and distribute them free of charge. La Jolla Cove Suites is a proud sponsor of La Jolla Elementary School, among other community organizations and events. This year that included sponsoring t-shirts for the Junior Olympics. (Can you spot our logo?) The perfect weather, well-orchestrated events, and spirit of friendly competition within our community made this year’s Junior Olympics the best one yet.

Congratulations to Kelly and Kevin, who were just married on Saturday at Cuvier Park, the cozy oceanfront site commonly referred to as “The Wedding Bowl” in La Jolla. Their intimate reception was held on the rooftop of La Jolla Cove Suites in perfect weather, and it featured a spectacular view of the La Jolla Cove, coastline and the dreamy, blue ocean. We wish the two of them a lifetime of health, wealth, happiness and love.

Tripadvisor Names La Jolla’s Children’s Pool “Wonderfully Unique”

Seals and sea lions make the Children’s Pool in La Jolla one of the most “wonderfully unique” beaches in the world, says Tripadvisor

Tripadvisor just named our Children’s Pool, and its seals and sea lions, one of ten “Wonderfully Unique” beaches from around the world! We couldn’t agree more. La Jolla Cove Suites guests enjoy being just a few steps away from this world renown natural attraction. The seals and sea lions also spend time at the Cove in front of the hotel, allowing guests to easily view them without even leaving their balconies!

Free Walking Tour Murals of La Jolla

Recently installed two-sided mural entitled “Walking in the City 1 and 2” by renown British artist Julian Opie

La Jolla added the above two-sided mural just in time for its free Murals of La Jolla Walking Tour on Thursday, May 16, at 6 p.m.  The tour of this 11-piece collection starts at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, located at 1008 Wall Street in La Jolla. Reservations are recommended (858-454-5872).

In addition to the beautiful murals around La Jolla, guests will find a collection of tile mosaics scattered throughout the hallways of La Jolla Cove Suites. Krista’s mother, Kay Heron, was a great lover of art, and mosaics were a favorite of hers. Not only did she collect these mosaics, but she and her brother, Jack Heimburge, actually tiled the pillars in the front of the hotel using blue Italian tiles.

So, which one of these mosaic pieces is your favorite?

We are happy to hear this promise from San Diego Mayor Bob Filner that the rocks at La Jolla Cove will be washed by Memorial Day Weekend. Furthermore, it is very encouraging to hear that he is close to a permanent solution to this issue. We will be so glad when this issue is resolved, and we thank Mayor Filner for his tenacity.

You can read the full article here and see the Seal Cam here.

Congratulations to Alia and Ignacio, Wed on the La Jolla Cove Rooftop

Set up for wedding on La Jolla Cove Suites' rooftop

La Jolla Cove Suites had the great privilege of hosting Alia and Ignacio’s bright and beautiful wedding this past Saturday. We loved their color theme of charcoal grey and canary yellow. They accomplished a romantic, beach tone through their attention to detail and consistent application of an elegant starfish theme.

Alia and Ignacio’s cake was beautiful, theme-consistent, and crowned with an adorable kissing fish topper. Starfish champagne flutes tied into the rest of the décor.

Their bright and whimsical centerpieces featured lemons, gemstones and starfish. The bride and groom worked their yellow accent color and starfish into these cute baskets.

Guests arrived to Hawaiian music. Those in heels surely appreciated these thoughtful flip flops for dancing in comfort after the ceremony.

Thank you, Alia and Ignacio, for entrusting La Jolla Cove Suites with your very special wedding. We again congratulate you on your union, and we wish you both a lifetime of happiness together.

Kentucky Derby Themed Event at La Jolla Cove

kentucky-derby-001Congratulations to the Junior League of San Diego on their unbridled success at their largest fundraiser of the year this past Saturday at La Jolla Cove. It was no dog and pony show. Guests stampeded the annual Food and Wine Festival (formerly called Island Divine), where they were encouraged to drink and eat like horses. We can tell you from the horse’s mouth that they had spectacular La Jolla weather, and we saw teams of amazing hats a la this year’s Kentucky Derby theme. Payouts are earmarked for San Diego foster children. You’re all winners, ladies of the Junior League!
