La Jolla Cove Suites has two new additions to its family. Kittens Cleo II (named after our precious Cleo, the original hotel kitty) and Cornelius were rescued and adopted on Friday, June 7th, from the San Diego Humane Society. They are distractingly adorable, 8-week-old, grey tabbies. They certainly act like brother and sister, but are actually from two different litters. Currently hard at work exploring the Executive Office and the Sales office, their favorite activities are playing chase and hide and seek. Once they acclimate to their surroundings, they will be available to meet and greet our guests, so be sure to look for them.
La Jolla Cove Suites proudly hosted the project launch of Defensor Security’s GI-JOBS. It is a living documentary intended to promote the hiring of U.S. Veterans within the security industry. Defensor Security courts returning, aged and handicapped veterans for employment, due to their work ethic, reliability and discipline. Its GI-JOBS Project encourages other companies to do so, as well. Thank you, Defensor Security, for choosing us to kick off this important work. We can’t wait to see your program air.
La Jolla Cove Suites was the site of Sunday’s beautiful wedding ceremony and reception. The couple chose a clean, classic look of silver and white for their reception tables, each accented with brightly colored centerpieces for a pop of spring color. The centerpieces were ringed with a thick band of teal blue ribbon that smartly tied in the azure backdrop of ocean and sky, as well as the hotel’s signature color.
The wedding ceremony featured a photo booth from The Abbey Catering, as well as trunks full of photo props, and a photo album for guests to leave the second copy of their picture strip for the bride and groom. We’re sure the couple delighted in taking the album with them at the end of the night for an immediate glimpse of some of the wedding fun.
The couple affixed to the Solarium window a large shuangxi, the Chinese character for Double Happiness, which is used in Chinese weddings to symbolize love, happiness, luck and a harmonious life together. We at La Jolla Cove Suites certainly wish the two of you all of that and more! Thank you for celebrating your special day with us.
One thousand school children representing all ten La Jolla elementary schools dashed, relayed, threw softballs, broad jumped, and ran obstacle courses at the annual Junior Olympics last weekend. The Kiwanis Club of La Jolla sponsors and runs the community favorite each year. Members of the Armed Services honor the community with their assistance at the event. C&H Photo of La Jolla provides volunteer photographers who take action shots of each child and distribute them free of charge. La Jolla Cove Suites is a proud sponsor of La Jolla Elementary School, among other community organizations and events. This year that included sponsoring t-shirts for the Junior Olympics. (Can you spot our logo?) The perfect weather, well-orchestrated events, and spirit of friendly competition within our community made this year’s Junior Olympics the best one yet.
Tripadvisor just named our Children’s Pool, and its seals and sea lions, one of ten “Wonderfully Unique” beaches from around the world! We couldn’t agree more. La Jolla Cove Suites guests enjoy being just a few steps away from this world renown natural attraction. The seals and sea lions also spend time at the Cove in front of the hotel, allowing guests to easily view them without even leaving their balconies!
La Jolla added the above two-sided mural just in time for its free Murals of La Jolla Walking Tour on Thursday, May 16, at 6 p.m. The tour of this 11-piece collection starts at the Athenaeum Music and Arts Library, located at 1008 Wall Street in La Jolla. Reservations are recommended (858-454-5872).
In addition to the beautiful murals around La Jolla, guests will find a collection of tile mosaics scattered throughout the hallways of La Jolla Cove Suites. Krista’s mother, Kay Heron, was a great lover of art, and mosaics were a favorite of hers. Not only did she collect these mosaics, but she and her brother, Jack Heimburge, actually tiled the pillars in the front of the hotel using blue Italian tiles.
So, which one of these mosaic pieces is your favorite?
We are happy to hear this promise from San Diego Mayor Bob Filner that the rocks at La Jolla Cove will be washed by Memorial Day Weekend. Furthermore, it is very encouraging to hear that he is close to a permanent solution to this issue. We will be so glad when this issue is resolved, and we thank Mayor Filner for his tenacity.
We had a front row view of the more than 6,000 runners who participated in Sunday’s La Jolla Half Marathon. The bulk of our guests this weekend were participants in the 32nd annual race. They value the convenience of staying across the street from both the finish line and the shuttle bus pick-up point for the starting line.
Congratulations to our very own Gus Salles. He runs this event every year and travels all around the country running marathons. He finished the race with a time of one hour and 45 minutes. Way to go, Gus!
We also offered a half-day stay after the race for guests to relax and get cleaned up before their trip home. We had a full house for this event, so be sure to call and book early if you want the best location in town for next year.
